Medical Requirements
Before reaching the milestone of ‘Going Solo,’ two crucial prerequisites must be met: passing the Air Law theory
exam and obtaining a Medical Certificate. Typically, students can anticipate achieving solo status after accumulating around 20-30 hours of instruction.
For those aspiring to pursue a professional career in helicopter aviation, we highly recommend obtaining a Class 1 medical certificate. This ensures peace of mind, confirming your eligibility to hold a Class 1 medical. Alternatively, if your helicopter flying endeavors are recreational in nature, a Class 2 medical certificate is the recommended choice.
Both Class 1 and Class 2 Medical Certificates must be acquired through a CAA Authorized Medical Examiner (AME). It’s important to note that the initial issuance of these certificates generally incurs a higher cost than subsequent reissues. The validity period varies, with Class 1 Medical Certificates typically lasting for 12 months and Class 2 certificates having a longer duration, contingent on your age.
At HeliSpeed Academy, we prioritize the well-being and regulatory compliance of our students. Our guidance and support extend to navigating the medical certification process, ensuring that you are prepared and qualified to take control of the aircraft solo.
